Healthy Choices: Do You Need Time
Off?.
The customary vacation season has
come to an end. The Hilton Hotels Corp. sponsored a Vacation Values Survey
(1995) which provided some interesting results.
Of those surveyed, 71%
said money is the main reason for not taking a dream vacation.
How about just a great vacation? Must we always have it all or nothing?
21% have gone two or more
years without a vacation!
As busy as most people are - when would these 21% get recharged,
distressed, or revitalized? How and when would their creative juices be
filled again? Have you taken time off?. (Please do. I promise, the work
will be there for you when you get back.)
60% said vacation takes 2nd
place to work commitments.
Let me ask you, who are vacations good for? I suspect most people think
"just themselves," therefore its' OK to put my relaxation and
heath second. But what about the fact your vacationing benefits family and
friends - do they rank after work too? Aside from that, you do benefit from
down time.
Finally 62% said they need a
vacation now! What
is stopping them...or you from taking the time you need? If by taking your
time off, you get fired, hassled and/or replaced, your needs probably
aren't being met working there in the first place.
A friend, Ben, skipped vacations,
for years. He committed time during the week and on weekends hoping to please
his Director. He was still let go during a restructuring. It’s a shame he lost
more than paid vacations. Somewhere along the way he also lost his wife and the
relationship(s) he could have had with his kids.
No one is irreplaceable- except a
parent.
